This s from the weekend that was Download Festival 2007 concerts at The Gorge.

Wow what an adventure it was . Amazing times were had and nothing major went wrong. Who could complain about that. :-) Not I. How bout I share the story.

Well this day was more than just the shows, it was Meg’s birthday.

We left town early and headed to the Quincy wildlife reserve we had a little caravan going with Ry and our friends A&B with him. We were all going to meet PB&J for camping that night. They were already out there with the RV. Later in the day we would be joined by Gringo and the H’s.

We got to Quincy and found PB&J right away. Kinda hard to miss that tank of a truck and huge RV. It took us maybe 20 min to setup camp then we had some time to relax before we headed for the show.

It was hot at the reserve. There was not a whole lot of shade in the are we were camping so we didn’t spend long there. We were anxious to get to the show.

We headed for The Gorge about noon or so. Man the dirt roads were dry this year. dust was crazy at the reserve. My poor car got so damn dusty. Probably didn’t help that i had the sunroof open. LOL. But we made it to the Gore in just a few minutes. Our little hideaway at Quincy is perfect for easy access to the amphitheater and free to boot. :-)

As we pull into the Gorge parking I get stopped by one of the flaggers. I roll down the window and he tell me that because I am driving a Volkswagen I got VIP parking… Well VWIP parking they were calling it. I had no idea what was going on, we just followed the blue signs that said VWIP. We got to a gate where another flagger was standing there with a person all decked out in VW gear. They said that VW was putting on this show and owners get VIP parking and a shuttle up to the gate. So they pointed us to our spot in the front.

We just barely get out of the car and there is a young kid driving a brand new Touareg 2. He asks us to get in and he will take us to the gates. Holy cow is this thing nice. loaded to the max. DVD player, navigation, rear view cameras, air ride suspension. One hell of a sweet ride. And they make it in a V10 Twin Turbo Diesel. Let me just grab the spare 75k from under my bed and i’ll take one!

We got dropped off at the front gate where we met up with part of the gang. Ry, A&B and PB&J were there waiting. we headed in together then right down to the grass to grab a good spot. We snagged a huge chunk of lawn that was in a prime location.

Being VW owner we got to head up to a special VW garage. At the garage they were giving away t-shirts. You filled out a little form and selected one of 4 designs and then they would silkscreen that design on your t-shirt right there. Then we took our key over to the VW owners booth where we got to pick up a bunch of free VW stuff. Beach Towel, Key Rings, Water Bottle all sorts of stuff. Then I let each person in the group use my VW key so they could all get the goods. :-)

Gringo came in just a little bit after us then the H’s after him. Once we were all there it was just time to chill with good friends before the shows.

Then it was nap time. The breeze was nice and laying in the sun was so relaxing. great time for some rest. I awoke to Nada Surf playing. They put on a good set. Next was The Presidents of the United States of America.

For this band Ry, A&B and I all went down to the pit.
Man was it insane! The Pit beat the hell out of me. But it was good none the less. Whats fun about a pit if you don’t walk away bruised?

To be continued………………..
