I may be trying this out tonight when i get home, If not ill wait till sunday. Going to be out of town on saturdya and want to bring my hacked up iPhone along and its all running OK at the moment!

I installed Cydia Packager last night.

This is another package installed similar to that of Installer.app but it does things differently.

First its an 11mb download, so I say do it on WiFi, that would take a while over Edge for sure. Once downloaded it starts installing itself. This program replaces the BSD subsystem that we all installed with Installer. They say its a lot better and more secure than the BSD system that was being used. So it replaces it. I heard the install would take a while but it was only about 3 min on my iPhone.

After installing its looking good. it started and ran just fine. I updated some of the repositories and there came all the apps. a lot of the same ones that are in installer.

Cydia really is a lot faster than Installer and I like that. This will be the main place I get apps unless I have to get them from installer… One of the only downfalls from Cydia at the moment is you can not add your own repositories, so if I want something from one thats not installed I will have to used Installer, but thats ok for now.

I am kinda wondering if im getting too much crap on my phone or something, It seems a little sluggish. I have installed and removed so many apps that maybe there are some left overs that are getting in the way.

I think on sunday I am going to restore to the factory settings then use iLibertyX or PWNage to re-jailbreak the sucker and get rid of that ZiPhone crapware that I used the first time. I just gotta pull off all my custom icons and crap i have loaded first….. We shall see how that goes, and maybe ill make a video of the process…

Trying to make sense of it all, PWNage or iLibertyX or Ziphone. Which to use.

Well i have spent the last 3 nights reading over countless forums and wiki’s all trying to find out what is the best.

Honestly I should have done this when i first got my iPhone but hell I just wanted it hacked so I could start messing around.

So here is my take on it after all these hours of reading……

ZiPhone - which i used version 2.5 - is a hacked up version of the original Dev-Teams release anySim. Zibree took their code and messed with it to make his own then released his version. It evidently downgrades the bootloader if you use it to Unlock (which i did not do thank god) and once its downgraded you cant upgrade back, this voids your apple warrenty if they find you have a miss matched bootloader.

My bootloader is A-OK at 4.6 which it came installed with - 1.1.2 OTB iPhone.

iLibertyX - latest greatest version for unlocking, the devs spent more time before releasing (unlike zibree) and have a very stable product that will jailbreak and unlock and install a custom bootloader that is upgradeable.

And now there is PWNage - this is the hard work of the dev teams that allows for installing custom firmware from within iTunes instead of using a 3rd party app for the Hack. It has the baility to jailbreak, Unlock and even run other OS’s when they get them going - i hear Linux for the iPhone is already in the works.

So…. Whats this mean for me and my iPhone…

I’ll keep using the Ziphone hack that I installed for a few more days until i figure out which I want to do more.. Learn about ipsw and make my own custom or just use iLibertyX.. im leaning more for learning about the ipsw files and customizing my own.

On a side note - I got the latest version of the iPhone SDK - so i can start learning how to develope for the iPhone in all its glory!

For us at&t people who do not need the unlock - Just the jailbreak. Is there an advantage for us to restore and use PWN if we already did JB with ziphone or liberty?

pytey - @Absent-one you need to research this and choose, it allows custom firmware which is a big step. You don’t _have_ to use the bootneuter

NerveGas - Pwnage is ideal for advanced users who want to really customize… and ZiPhone is good for people whose names are Zibree and need to impress girls.

It sure was nice to see what people are thinking and wanting to do with this tool.
